Carpeting Rugs Hardwood Laminate Hard Surfaces

Installation

Your Carpeting, Rugs and Flooring experts

Carpet Rip Up

  • We will rip up your existing carpet and pad for an additional charge.
  • Should you do this yourself, be sure to take the pad and staples out, and leave the tack strips in place for possible reuse.

Disposal of Old Carpet

  • If the rip up is done by us, we will take the carpet and pad to the refuse pick up point on your property.
  • Consult your local refuse company for specific requirements.

Hard Surface Removal

  • When removing hard surface flooring like ceramic or wood flooring, we do not remove the old material from your property.
  • Consult your local refuse company for specific requirements. In some situations, an on site dumpster is recommended because weight is an issue.
  • Please cover items, even in rooms below where we are working to protect them from the dust that may arise from our work.

Additional Fees

  • In some cases, the removal of the existing floor may uncover structural or sub floor issues. These situations often cannot be anticipated, and a contractor may need to be called in before we can finish the installation.

Furniture

  • The room should be free of furniture before installation can proceed.
  • (Be sure doorways - halls are cleared of wall hangings, pictures, and breakables).
  • If you wish to have us move the furniture, your Messner Representative can arrange this for an additional charge.
  • In the bedrooms, please strip the beds and remove all items from the bottoms of closets.

Appliances

  • Inside of kitchen and utility rooms, disengage the washer, dryer, refrigerator, and all gas appliances.
  • It is recommended to have a professional re-install the appliances.
  • In the bathrooms, if hard flooring is to be installed, you can arrange for a plumber to have the commode removed prior to installation and reset after the installation is complete.
  • All electronic equipment is to be unhooked and moved out of the work area by the customer.

Specialty Items

  • Many of us will have some valued treasures in our homes that require the utmost care and expertise to move. We recommend that these items be moved by professionals.
  • Such items include: pianos, grandfather clocks, waterbeds, aquariums, computers, stereo sound systems, big screen tv's, antiques, and pool tables.

Doors

  • When preparing to install your flooring, the installers will remove your doors.
  • When they are finished, if there is a problem with the doors fitting, a carpenter will need to be hired by you to trim the bottoms of the doors.
  • This problem only arises when the new flooring is thicker than the previous flooring.

Moldings

  • If your existing flooring was laid under quarter round, we will remove but not replace existing quarter round, for we cannot be responsible for breakage.
  • Old quarter round and transitions will break when removed.
  • Our installers will use your existing tack strips and reinforce or replace them as necessary.
  • On hard surface installations, we recommend all new quarter round and transitions.

Equipment

  • During a hard surface installation, our installers will need an area for cutting material.
  • This area will need to be above 60 degrees and have access to a power outlet.
  • The material may need to be delivered ahead of time in order to become acclimated to its surroundings.

Ceramic Tile

  • Grouting of tile is done about 24 hours after the tile has been set.
  • Please stay off the tile during the setting of the tile and the 24 hours after grouting has taken place.

Clean Up

  • We believe that great service means taking care of the details. Please have your vacuum ready so that we can vacuum your new carpet after installation.
  • If any materials remain upon completion of our work, we recommend that you store them in a dry place for future use.

Enjoy your Flooring

  • In order to keep your carpet looking great for years, be sure to read the warranty and cleaning guide.
  • Most fiber manufacturers have a toll free number to call and/or a web site for specific cleaning questions.
  • Please see your salesperson to confirm products and procedures for maintaining your flooring.
